Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the campsite? Our campsite is situated at Townsend Farm, in the village of Whelford. It is a 20 minute walk from the campsite to the entrance of the show.
When is the campsite open? Townsend Farm is a working farm apart from the week running up to and including Fairford Airshow itself. See the booking page for dates. We do not run any DIY camping at any other time of the year at Townsend Farm as we do not have any infrastructure apart from lush meadows and water troughs for the cattle! We clear the fields a couple of weeks beforehand and bring in electricty, water, showers and toilets specifically for the open period during RIAT. This is also why we don't have facilities in every field. If you are looking for full facilities within a few metres of your pitch then this is probably not the best campsite for you. We do however work as hard as possible to ensure you have a great stay during RIAT in a lovely location with a relaxed atmosphere and unprecedented views of aircraft on final approaches to the runway.
Do you take caravans and motorhomes? Our campsite is open to all vehicles, but please bear in mind that for the rest of the year, as higlighted above, it is a working farm. If bowling green type pitches and concrete roads are more your thing, this is not the campsite for you.
Do you have pitches with electric hook-up? Sadly no. After a lot of research and factoring in the running costs of hire and fuel we concluded it would be prohibitively expensive to offer EHU. If you decide to invest in a small generator, please remember that they must be under 1.8kw - definitely no site style generators they are just too noisy for your fellow campers. The use of generators is allowed in all fields from 7am to 10.30pm but must not be used in the Quiet Fields at any time.
Can I drive in and out during the show? The police set up a one way system for part of the show weekend and this can make it difficult to drive in and out of the site. However, we do not restrict vehicle movements unless wet weather forces us to do so. If it is wet and you think you will need to drive in and out during the show, please let us know when you arrive and we can make sure we find you a suitable pitch or parking space.
Can I bring pets and children? Yes! Both are very welcome. We have designated quiet fields designed for families. All we ask is that dogs are kept on a lead, and that you clear up and dispose of any mess.
Can I park next to my tent? In most years, yes. If the weather is extremely wet, then you will need to park in a designated area and then walk to your pitch. We recommend bringing a trolley if you like to camp in one of the more far flung fields of the site.
Can I pitch my tent next to my friends? Yes, you can! As long as the first to arrive bags enough space for your tents/carvans etc. You will be able to camp with your family and friends groups.
Can I bring a gazebo? Yes, you can.
What time can I arrive at the campsite & when do I need to check out? Reception will be open daily from Thursday, 13th July at 6.30am. You are welcome to leave your tent up during the day you are planning to leave. We will be checking pitches each evening. If you would like to extend your stay beyond your original booking you will be welcome to pay cash on the day, subject to availability.
What do I need to bring with me to check in? Please bring your booking confirmation with QR code - either a print out or displayed on your phone/device. If you have made multiple bookings you will have a unique QR code for each. A reminder will be sent to you 5 days and 2 days prior to your arrival.
Do I have to pre-book or can I turn up and pay on the day? All bookings must be made in advance of arrival. Online bookings will remain open until the end of June, or once we reach capacity, so don't delay, get booked up to avoid disappointment.
What food and drink is there? We will be running a BBQ from Thursday to Sunday, cooking quality food and often featuring specials made from our home reared meat. Jenners Barn will be open and offering a Bar from Thursday to Sunday.
What is Pop Up Glamping & how do I book? In partnership with Brook Bell Tents we are delighted to be able to offer fully managed glamping in a dedicated field just two minutes' walk from the air field. Taking the hassle out of camping, you will stay in a ready set up bell tent and benefit from a host of extra facilities. Find out more and book at Brook Bell Tents.
